I hope you’re having a good summer! The longest and warmest days, and in ancient Chinese Five Elements Medical Theory (Wu Xing), the season of the Fire Phase. 

The ancient Chinese were an agrarian culture and watched the seasonal cycles for clues about how to live in good health and harmony with the seasons. Even though we aren’t agrarian, our genes and immune systems are still influenced by cyclic seasonal rhythms and we neglect them at some peril.
My good friend and colleague Dr. Elson Haas wrote  “Staying Healthy with the Seasons”  many years ago and it’s still the most useful book on the subject for those of you who want to know more about cycles and appropriate self-care.
