Research reported in the Menopause journal concludes that a series of acupuncture treatments has positive effects on menopausal symptoms and quality of life that last at least 6 months after concluding treatment. Symptom relief was noted in most people by 3 treatments and maximal response in an average of 8 treatments.
When you consider that serious adverse effects to well-done acupuncture are essentially nil, and that there are often positive side effects such as improved sleep, mood, energy, and digestion, acupuncture should be high on the list of treatments for distressing menopausal symptoms, especially if a woman has concerns about the medical option of hormone replacement therapy.
